Tips for Creating Theme Pages
Thursday, February 21st, 2008Tips for Creating Theme Pages
When creating a scrapbook, most people choose a theme. This makes it easier to decide what should go into the book. A hodge-podge of information is not easy to view or assimilate. A theme is like dividing up the book of your life into chapters – each chapter should be about a particular thing – or several similar things. For instance you could have a book for birthdays, one for special holidays, a sporting theme, a wedding theme and many more.
Once you have decided on what your theme will be, try and match everything on the page to it. If you want to showcase that cruise you took last year, a nautical theme would be suitable. Then embellishments could be in the form of anchors, fish, seashells, or anything else along that line. Colours would be blues and greens and patterns could be any resembling waves, rather than something like flowers or animals.
If your scrapbook theme is a wedding, you would hardly have it decorated with animals – unless of course the wedding took place on a farm or ranch. Then the odd horse or cow in the background would provide a humorous touch. One thing to remember is that your take on a theme will be unique to you. Competitions are sometimes run between scrappers to see the variety one theme will inspire.
If you are just beginning and feel you don?t have enough ideas or artistic ability to make your scrapbook look good, you can always buy Class Kits from Scrapbooking with Vanessa that come complete with full colour instructions and each are uniquely designed by their Design Team Designers. Then all you have to do is follow the simple instructions, insert your special photographs, journaling and the job is done. These are also ideal for people who don?t have much time and for the beginner right through to advanced.
It is also possible to buy a themed kit. This will give you all you need to create a set number of pages for a particular theme and it saves you the hassle of trying to decide what to buy. There is so much choice that it is easy to feel overwhelmed at first – especially if you are just beginning. If you encounter this problem, try visiting scrapbook websites ? especially ones that categorises their materials according their theme relevance. Scrapbooking with Vanessa, for example, categorises their products according to the time of the year, or special occasions.
If you truly want your pages to be an expression of your own personality, yet are still not sure how to proceed, remember to keep it simple. You don?t have to stuff each page full of embellishments. Clear, clean lines are easier on the eyes and the attention can be drawn to the important things like snapshots and journaling.
